Mimi's thoughts ~
I saw this view on a hike in the southern
part of the park during the lovely-lazy days
of summer.  I was struck by the reflection
and knew it would be an incredible pastel.

Mimi's thoughts ~
This day was one of those
unbelievable days in the first part of
Fall in the Northern Range of the
park.  The sky was so clear and the
air carried a twinge of chill, yet the
sun was so warm.  I hiked with a
friend and kept stopping to take
photos.  The colors were amazing!
Aspen are, hand's down, my favorite
tree.  I love this image because it
makes me want to follow the trail to
unknown finds :)

Mimi's thoughts ~
This perfect meadow in the Northern part
of Yellowstone is the companion piece to
Aspen Glow, above.  I have been wanting
to do this picture for quite some time.   I
was drawn to the striking sun slanting
across the meadow and the contrast
between the aspen and the dark fir forest.

Old Faithful - Mimi Matsuda copyright 2006
Mimi's thoughts ~
Every time I watch a show of Old
Faithful I see some thing new.  It's
especially fun to focus on the soft
colors of the steam, reflecting the
sky and clean light of our park.
Also, I admire the warm textural
pallet that surrounds the famous
geyser.  It's a kick to see the before
and after changes!
P.S. - a great spot to watch an
eruption is up at Observation Point.
This is the lava flow situated above
the geyser.  Then stop at the
General Store for a scoop of ice
cream.

Mimi's thoughts ~
The Alaska Basin is a very special place
in Grand Teton National Park.  It looks
west, towards Idaho and is filled with a
full spectrum of colorful gems, from
the rich wildflowers to the rocks.
Every time I go there I have a hard time
seeing everything!  I want to stare at
the views far away, then I want to see
all the tiny details in the sands and
rocks of the lake.  Then there's the riot
of flowers come July and August -
whew!  A very special place indeed.

Mimi's thoughts ~
When I drive into the park for the first time
every summer and when I leave at the end
of the season in the fall, this is the place I
consider my touchstone.  This view is 9
miles north of Fishing Bridge, where the
Yellowstone River leaves Yellowstone
Lake.  We affectionately call this place,
Grizzly Overlook.  This is the spot to scan
the valley for an incredible diversity of
wildlife at dawn & dusk.  The mountains in
the distance are the Washburn Range.
They are the northern edge of the
Yellowstone Caldera.  Hike to the top of
Mt. Washburn for one of the classic
jaw-dropping views of the park (6 miles
round trip).
