I love how this pastel worked out. The Fall
in the Tetons is probably my most favorite
season. We get the deep, cobalt blue sky
days, complimented by the warm, buttery
golds of the aspen. The Great Gray Owl is
a rare and special bird to see in the area.
Consider yourself lucky if you see one of
these Ghosts of the Forest and Meadows.
They are the largest owl species in North
America.

I have wonderful memories of the Great
Horned Owl. As a teenager, I worked with
a sweet-heart of an owl, at the Oregon
Zoo. He was the "bird with training
wheels" in our Birds of Prey Program. I
am fascinated with their most beautiful,
amber colored eyes and keen sense of
hearing. Plus, the ear tufts are so striking!
Recently I've watched these guys in the
Northern part of Yellowstone and The
Malheur area in Oregon.
This pastel was a joy to work on.
It was fresh and exciting and I
enjoyed drawing the warmer and
cooler sides of the owl.
